Contradictions, we encounter them all the time. For the disciples, Jesus was a contradiction. He was the Messiah who would suffer. Of course, the greatest contradiction was the cross. An instrument of death that becomes the means of God’s grace. We are called to claim and proclaim that contradiction. The cross empowers all the other contradictions of our faith. Underserving of forgiveness and yet forgiven. Unloved and yet loved. Salvation that is unearned and yet given.
